Joe Pergolizzi has been an entrepreneur for over twenty-five years. He founded three businesses, bootstrapped every one of them, and exited all three. Those covered brick-and-mortar, ecommerce, and a food franchise he built to 400 franchises across five countries. He has worked with brands including Airbnb and Burton, and across his career has worked with more than a thousand entrepreneurs on starting, scaling, exiting and buying businesses. He also holds a real estate portfolio and invests in early-stage companies.
On selling, his view is that it starts with an honest read of the strengths and weaknesses, so the value can be pushed and the gaps closed. He puts weight on mapping out how the business could scale, because that is substantially what a buyer is paying for. And he advises flexibility: price matters, but most exits are settled in the terms.
